Ronan is currently a member of Opera Stuttgart’s solo ensemble, where he recently made role debuts as Marcello La Bohème and Guglielmo in Yannis Houvardas’ new production of Così fan tutte conducted by Sylvain Cambreling. Other roles in 2014/15 included Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos. Other recent performances include a recital with Marcelo Amaral marking the 100th anniversary of the First World War, which was broadcast on Deutschlandradio Kultur, Ein deutsches Requiem in Liederhalle, Stuttgart, and a series of performances of Fauré’s Requiem with the Stuttgarter Ballet in homage to choreographer Kenneth MacMillan.
In 2015/16, his roles in Stuttgart include apart from Guglielmo and Marcello also Marullo Rigoletto as well as appearances in Fidelio and Carmen. Concert performances include a recital of Shakespeare songs to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Plans beyond the current season include an ‘alternative Winterreise’ programme as part of Internationale Hugo-Wolf-Akademie’s Schubert recital series.
Ronan was a member of the BBC New Generation Artists scheme between 2006-2008, was awarded a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2006 and the Priz Thierry Mermod at Verbier Festival. During his time on the scheme, he performed with various conductors including Andris Nelsons, James Judd and Mikhail Agrest, and with orchestras including BBC Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and BBC NOW. In October 2014, Ronan was awarded the Trude Eipperle Rieger Preis; he was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2015.
Opera roles include the title role of Eugene Onegin for Iford Arts, Count Almaviva for Classical Opera Company, Morales for English National Opera, English Clerk in Death in Venice conducted by Martyn Brabbins, Aeneas with Gabrieli Consort, Pandolfe Cendrillon, Nardo La finta giardiniera, and Kilian Der Freischütz conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras at Edinburgh International Festival. In 2011 he made his debut at La Monnaie as Maurevert in Olivier Py’s production of Les Huguenots conducted by Marc Minkowski.
On the concert platform, Ronan has performed extensively in Europe, Australia and Japan. In 2010 he made his Paris recital debut in Auditorium du Louvre. Other engagements include a recital with Mitsuko Uchida in Berlin Philharmonie, Trouble in Tahiti with Münchner Rundfunkorchester conducted by Ulf Schirmer in Munich and L’enfance du Christ with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Robin Ticciati. He has also performed the baritone solo part in Britten’s War Requiem at the Perth International Festival and in Sydney Opera House. It is a role he is becoming especially identified with having performed it last year in Berliner Dom and last October in Liederhalle, Stuttgart.
